Issa Rae, an American actress, writer and producer; recently came out with a video, talking all about “Me” Season. The video has gained a lot of traction on social media, for its bold and outspoken message. It has provoked a lot of positive and empowering emotions in many; because it’s certainly a message that many people need to hear.
“Me” season, is all about putting yourself first. At times in life, people confuse being self-focused with being selfish. That it’s wrong to put yourself first; or that it’s wrong to care about you own needs and wants.
That’s it’s wrong to want to shine your light.
In return, this causes a lot of doubt, imposter syndrome and low self-esteem in people. This causes people to feel resentment for watering themselves down; or for focusing on everyone else’s wants and needs before their own.
“Me” season isn’t about being a jerk, it isn’t about being an asshole; it’s about taking your power back. It’s about being okay with letting your light shine. It’s about refusing to dim your light, for the sake of others. That is why Issa stated, “ Mute me, Block me or whatever you need to do”, because there are always going to be people who have an issue with you shining your light.
The thing is, the problem isn’t really with you; it’s with themselves and their own insecurities.
We live in a world where people are constantly throwing their insecurities onto others. Once you realize that it’s a personal problem, and it has nothing to do with you; you will have no problem walking in your purpose, and being the person you have always wanted to be.
This is “Me” Season, this is your time to live your life to the fullest. Your time to reach your highest potential. Your time to do what you want to do; and most importantly, what you have been called to do.
With only one life to live, we all have two choices; we can either live a mediocre life that doesn’t align with our true calling and purpose; or we can walk with faith along the path that our inner world is leading us to.
Choose to walk along your divine path. Choose to focus more on yourself. Choose to be proud of who you are; because it’s “Me” season, and it’s certainly your time to shine!
